What about the idea of forcing the autoassign in TDM server? Its really annoying to see the same players "occupy" Marine slots in every game.
As discussed before, Marines have a clear camouflage advantage in dirt map. This inequality should be shared to all freely.

Sounds logical to me m8. I am not that often on TDM, but I do notice indeed that Marines are often in an advantageous position due to their outfits. I assume that it is possible to do apply some modification to enforce auto-assign. Then everybody has an equal chance to be that 'lucky' to be a marine, or to have the 'bad luck' to be on the other side.

As Reverse says, this is a revival of an old discussion and I haven't yet heard a single reason NOT to have forced auto-assign.

As well as a colour advantage, it also affects maps where one side has a clear advantage at start, e.g. District. I always auto-assign and know I will always start as Opfor as the vast number choose Marines because it is easy to trap Opfor in their spawn at the start. Not only will I always end up on Opfor but we will be outnumbered by at least 2:1 as everybody chooses Marines.

Ambush is another map like this. Played a couple of days ago - starting assignment was 3 Opfor 9 Marines.

One reason not to autoassign would be the reason for me to be a marine and have the advantage against those terrorists... Just saying we must be able to stop them!

I think you are talking about two different things here. Spawnkilling cannot or hardly can be adjusted with a modification of the server, whereas it is possible I think to enforce autoassign. For the latter no admin is needed, for the former it is.

If its just a setting then why not do it. And why cant the same be done with the spawn im sure ive played servers where they had up to 5 second spawn protection back in the day.

On the new wild west server there is a spawn delay...............24/7 Overgrown so maybe that's the way to go:D

In past, many servers had autoassigned forced. There must be a script out there.
Yesterday the same situation. Only slots for OpFor were open! Some players complained about it (recorded in logs). Maybe this is one of the reasons that our COD4TDM server is not so 'attractive' some periods...

Changing the spawn protection does not solve the problem. Then you are giving the spawner a big advantage as they can easily kill you whereas you cannot so easily kill them. And furthermore and a more important reason is that players will just wait five seconds before you are being killed by them. Believe me, we have tried it and it did not work. Assessing spawnkilling/spawncamping will always to some extent remain work that we will have to do as admins. And of course, the bot can provide us with some assistance for this, but not completely. On the other hand, as Reverse says, I think autoassign is a tweak in the modification which should be more feasible to realize than getting rid of spawnkilling/spawncamping.

I agree with Basso. Spawnkilling is something that can be controlled, if an admin realize it. Autoassign not. Even more, there is not a rule for that. So we cannot interfere. And the movie goes on...

Autoassign is an easy one to fix - I have played on many many servers where it is normal not to have a choice.

So is spawn killing. Give a 2 sec invulnerability to the spawner during which no damage can be inflicted by that person.

I rarely see spawnkilling in TDM so it must be mainly a FFA problem.

So, can we put this autoassign force? Or if there is any reason, we may poll for this like we did for clays.

Same situation today. Games start with 10 Marines and 2 OpFors :D
